Postgraduate Foundation Programme

Overview

Post Graduate English Foundation   (Semester 1)   B1+ Intermediate

Course Description- (PGF-1)                                                                                                                                   

The course is leveled at the B1+ threshold and all students must test at or above this level to be admitted.  The course’s content includes concentrated academic reading, writing, listening, speaking, and general multi-skills components. It is intended for individuals wishing to increase their general academic English skills for advanced exam preparation or enhancing professional qualifications.   Total class contact time is 90 hours of instruction with an addition 60 hours of optional general English skills building using the Gateway B1+ Learning Platform.                  

Post Graduate English Foundation   (Semester 2)     B2 Upper Intermediate

Course Description-    (PGF 2)                                                                                                                               

This course is a continuation of the Graduate Foundation Academic English Course offered in the first semester.  The course is leveled at the B2 threshold and all students must test at or above this level to be admitted.  The course’s content includes concentrated academic reading, writing, listening, speaking, and general multi-skills components, based on preparation for the IELTS examination. It is intended for individuals wishing to increase their general academic English skills for advanced exam preparation or enhancing professional qualifications.   Total class contact time is 90 hours of instruction with an addition 60 hours of optional general English skills building using the Gateway B2 Learning Platform.   



Skills Development

The programme develops students’ academic English knowledge and skills necessary for successful post-graduate studies in any UKH course. These include a range of essential competencies in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Students also learn core research and critical thinking skills. Furthermore, students receive instruction in PTE (Academic) preparation designed to help them achieve a score of at least 50.


Assessment

Students complete coursework, quizzes, presentations, and a final exam. Students will take a PTE (Academic) exam for entry into their chosen programme. Students who do not achieve the required minimum score will not be able to progress into a postgraduate programme.

Applicants dismissed for any reason from any university, school or college will not be considered. Please note that acceptance into the foundation programme does not guarantee entrance into a postgraduate programme.
