Vice-Chancellor?s Message to Students on End of Academic Year

Dear Students,

In the 2017-2018 academic year, many things have happened in Kurdistan Region -- some good and some not so good, but fortunately we have managed to get through this difficult period. In this academic year, UKH has made it possible for Kurdistan to obtain the highest quality of education and recorded many successes and achievements. For these, I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to the academic and admin staff who worked so tirelessly with you during the whole academic year.

At the beginning of the new 2017-18 academic year, I asked all the UKH Schools (chairs, deans and staff) to prepare their Academic Strategy Plan 2017-2020. We are confident that the UKH Strategic Plan provides an exciting, clear road map and forward-looking path that makes UKH an even higher quality institution in this region. This year, we were able to strengthen our academic departments by recruiting high-calibre international and local academic staff through the UK-based Times Higher Education, and we will continue to do this in order to maintain academic excellence.

Another high priority for me is the development of our new UKH building ? to be built on a large area with an excellent view in Hawler -- and the future 460-hectare campus. Furthermore, we were successful in reaching the final process of Iraq?s Ministry of Higher Education?s accreditation as UKH meets all the educational requirements for both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. Hopefully this process will be finished by the end of next month.

With the last day of this year?s classes now only two weeks away and exams to start soon, I wish you all the best for the final push. I know this can be a stressful time of year, but you must always believe that a little stress can be a good motivation. This can help you make the extra effort to succeed. With this year?s end in sight, I urge you to stay well prepared and make your best efforts over the next few weeks.

I wish you all the best for the upcoming final exams.

Dr Mohammed Mochtar

The Vice-Chancellor
