Sporting activities are a major part of student life at UKH. Every year UKH organizes a number of competitions and tournaments aiming at creating healthy positive competition between students and staff members in various departments.

University students and faculty benefit from several sporting facilities inside and outside the campus.
The sports which have been held so far are football, basketball, volleyball, tennis and table tennis all of which have their own teams. In addition, UKH has a chess club.
All of these teams have participated in the national university leagues, some achieving very good ranks.

UKH 2011 Soccer Tournament

UKH Soccer Tournament for 2011 kicked-off on April 24th in the Kurdistan Stadium in Erbil.
The tournament was organized by the committee of sport department which belongs to UKH student union and was financially supported by UKH.
The tournament which consisted of 8 teams was managed by an independents sport committee in order to hold a fair balance among the teams.
Results of the matches were taken by the committee.
The final match took place in Ainkawa Stadium on 8th May, 2011, honored by the presence of Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. Tahseen Ali Rafik, who awarded the winners.
A large number of UKH students were also present in the stadium. Finally, UKH's Access Class A won the tournament. There were also awards for the best player, top scorer, and the best goalkeeper in the tournament.

Girls Basketball Team

UKH female students also have had a great impact on improving sport in the university.UKH girls basketball team which is composed of seven excellent basketball players has been able to compete professional basketball teams in the Region.
The team members for 2011 were: Savina, Marcel, Karin, Fenk, Gullan, Sakar and Fanar.
The team's coach was Karzan Ahmed (left in the picture) and Hawkar Asaad was the team manager (right in the picture).
The team was one of the top teams in the Regional Girl's Basketball Tournament that was held in February 2011. They were able to beat most teams from the region.

Chess

In order to exercise our brains, we also have a chess club. A tournament was held on April 2010 with the presence of UKH chess players, which were students and university staff.
The tournament which was under the supervision of Abdulrahman Ali, one our current students, was held inside the university campus. Twana Tahsin and Shamal Sabir challenged each other in the final game, with Shamal emerging as the winner.

Table Tennis

UKH has provided a ping pong (table tennis) hall for its students and staff which has been used quite a lot by members of UKH.
The table tennis championship was held on April 2010 in which 40 students and staff participated.
Kamaran Kamal (left in the picture) who has also played on regional level in Kurdistan became the champion of the competition and was given the medal of best table tennis player by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sirwan Baban.
